View Full Version : Suggestion/Question - Melee Combat

Couldn't decide which forum to put this in so I put it in with the suggestions. Anyway, I got to thinking, in a game with more than 2 people playing, how would Melee Combat work? To better explain my question, here's a scenario:

For instance, let's say Naruto(1) and Sauske(1) are fighting, and Naruto(1) gets Sauske(1) down to 5 HP. Then let's say another person, Naruto(2), enters the picture. Can Naruto(2) just jump in and interrupt the skirmish and like knock out Sauske(1) for the finishing blow?

Here is where my question ends and my suggestions begin:

Maybe you could use a protective "bubble" around the 2 fighters while they are engaged in combat. This is closely related to ESF's style of melee combat, where you cannont enter the bubble or hurt anyone inside of it while a melee sequence is initiated. Then when the 2 players finish their session of combat (When they break off from each other) then anyone else can come in and attack.

P.S: If there is already a system in place to prevent the above scenario, then just disregard my suggestion.

The above question/suggestion also brings me to another idea I was pondering about. While in Melee combat, each player should have an option to break away from combat at anytime. Of course, you would have to set up a system of some sort that would not allow the person to do it everytime. This would prevent someone from being locked in melee combat for long periods of time, only being able to use melee attacks and not mix it up with some other jutsu. The reason I bring this up is because in ESF, (Yes, I use ESF as an example a lot, but the 2 mods seem to share a similarity to me for some reason) people who were only good at melee combat would just keep charging people and keeping them locked in combat so the other person couldn't use any abilities or anything... made the game sort of a pain when you couldn't use all the other cool attacks.

lets make a bunch of optional rules and let people decide what to turn off/on.

and i wouldnt want people kill stealing from me :-/ but it is a natural part of life. just like mufasa and simba.

optional. :) :D

Wait... did you just compare kill-stealing to the Lion King?

Anyway, I agree... if somthing like this is going to be in the game, there should be a way to turn it on and off.

Ok...you play ESF don't you? Think about it this is Naruto...NARUTO! The groups are made into squads, for teamwork. Like the zabuza fight...Naruto and sasuke paired up, and saved kakashi...They didn't just run up kill him and run away...The sad thing now adays is most video games don't implement teamwork...For example esf...nobody uses any special moves like combining their attacks...its all just solo kill whoever fights...If you put "Bubbles" around people it ruins the entire game...besides people just go and attack eachother again, so a bubble is kinda pointless, especially since this is a fast paced game...

Calm down :D. Yes I understand that this is Naruto and not DBZ and I do understand the concept of teamwork, but in certain situations, let's say free-for-all with more than 3 people... don't you think it would be a little cheap to just sit back, watch people's health, then charge in at the last second for the killing blow (And trust me... there are plenty of people like that)? This is why I noted that having an option to do somthing like the bubble is a more viable option than my original suggestion.

When I used to play ESF, I used quite a bit of combined attacks. For instance, beam jump to opponent, kick in the air, jump back, let teammate use a quick beam-attack, charge and enter melee mode right after... bam it's done. Or, power-struggles for instance. If an opponent was stronger than you, you could call in a friendly to enter and help tip the odds in your favor. I do agree that ESF is more on the solo play side, but there are elements that force teamwork. But keep in mind, this is completely circumstantial. Any game can turn into a "solo kill" game, unless you are truely forced to use teamwork. I highly doubt that people who play this game will use any kind of viable team strategy to attack because it requires communication... which the average person lacks or is unwilling to use. Plus... who wants to do what the team tells you to do all the time...

I agree it's a fast paced game... but ESF isn't slow either. In fact (Not that I know what NNC's gameplay is going to be like or anything) i'm willing to bet that ESF's gameplay will be 10 times faster than that of NNC's seeing as how NNC will not allow you to move as quickly as in ESF (Or so I assume).

you could divide points up depending on how much you actually hurt the opponent. then you would get the points you deserve, making kill-stealing pretty useless.

I don't think that would work because you only get 1 point from killing a person and you can't give someone 1/2 of the death. Unless you are saying each person gets 1 point which also wouldn't be fair if you did all the damage and he came in and just tapped him.

Ok look.. their is always going to be that one chump who sits back and waits for you to do all the work.. What you do to solve the probelm is GO ATTACk HIM LOL you dont keep continue fighting the guy you're currently trying to kill.. and dont worry the guy your fighting will follow you go for the guy who's sitting back.. if your better then him he may run if he does switch back to the other guy if he doesn't get the other guy to fight him so you can attack either of them.. You have to think fast and use your brain in those situations :O not slap a bubble on people and say you 2 fight then were next

Sabyr, that could work, and make like a 3 second period, so if you dont hit them within another 3-5 seconds, the points are lost. If not you can run person to person, hit em once and dart off, then you get points when they die.
